About the Program
In the past twelve years that North Crowley HS has been in existence excellence has been the standard on which school programs have been built and the North Crowley HS Varsity Choirs are no exception. Choral Director Robyn Hollimon came to NCHS beginning the 2000/2001 school year and concentrated on establishing a program based upon individual and group competitive success and performances which explore the wide variety of interesting and authentic music literature from our Western European classical heritage to Multicultural music from the United States and around the world.
The NCHS Choirs have earned consistent Sweepstakes awards at UIL Concert and Sightreading competition. The NCHS
Mixed A Cappella choir performed at the 2004 TMEA
state convention in San Antonio, the NCHS Womens Varsity choir performed at the SWACDA convention
in St. Louis in March 2006, and the NCHS Women's Chamber Choir was
one of forty choirs selected from across the United States for the 2007 ACDA
National Convention in Miami Beach. Forty Four students have been
named to the Texas All-State Choirs with an additional six All-State Choir
alternates selected in the past nine years and numerous students
have been placed in District, Region and Pre-Area Choirs. Thirty
five students have performed in ACDA Regional and National Honor
Choirs. Over three hundred students have also advanced in the past
nine years to the State level in solo
and/or ensemble competition and have had four outstanding soloists awarded
at state. North Crowley HS Choir graduates have been offered voice scholarships from university music departments every year.
About
the Director
Robyn Hollimon - NCHS Head Choral Director
Robyn Hollimon graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University in 1990 and spent ten years building successful high school and middle school choral programs in the Grandview ISD
before coming to North Crowley HS. She has served as Region 7 Vocal
Division Secretary for ten years and as the Region 7 Vocal Chair
2006/2007. She is also a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors Association, the Texas Choral Directors Association, and an active member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association
judging many regions across Texas. Her choirs have won numerous sweepstakes awards, “Best in Class,” “Grand Champion” and “Best in Festival” awards in Texas, Florida and Oklahoma and have sung in Carnegie Hall and in Europe. She conducted the NCHS A Cappella Choir in their inaugural performance for the TMEA
convention in 2004, the Varsity Women for the SWACDA convention in
2006, and the Women's Chamber Choir at the 2007 ACDA National
Convention. At the 2007 TMEA Convention she also served as
the Alto Section Leader for the All-State Mixed Choir. Many of her
students have pursued music education and music performance degrees in college. She is in her
Twentieth year as a music educator.
The NCHS Choral faculty also includes voice instructors Raymond Schultz and
Rachel Shirk.
